Bite training a dog?
I work as a security guard at the moment, and i have a rottweiler that i take to work with me. Trouble is we get lots of hoodies, and druggies on the premises, and all the dog does is lick them. What can i do to bite train her, as several of them have tried to attack me. If i could get her to bark on command, or bite.

Not sure if there are any protection dog experts on here, but your best bet would be to contact a local dog trainer and ask them the same question. They might be able to point you in the right direction
Seems if they dog loves you. When you are in Danger she well protect you with her life. All my Dogs where like that anyways
I have stared this for Greekman. Please leave the question open until he answers it.
Not all Rotties make good protection dogs. I have seen and met many rottweilers that would not harm a flie and all they wanted to do was go and play outside.
You need to get a dog with he right drive.
This is NOT something you can do yourself especially if you have no experience! Your going to need professional help. The dog needs to be balanced. No point having a dog that is meant to protect you but won’t listen when you say NO! or
Stop!. Real police dogs no when to let go of someone.
ADD* schutzhund is a SPORT it has nothing to do with personal protection work or anything that involves a real life situation, eg.. The dog protecting you from Yobs!!
You would have to have your dog professionally trained if you want your dog to bite on command.
If sounds like you have a lovely Rottie, take care that you don’t end up being prosecuted if your dog does bite, if you do get her trained.
Rotties are very loyal, so unusual for one to stand by while someone tried to attack her. Maybe she doesn’t have the right character to be trained for protection.
You’d need to take her to schutzhund training. There are three phases or stages to this training – tracking, obedience, and protection. Look up schutzhund on Google and check out the Bright Cove videos. Here’s a link, but I’m not sure Yahoo will print it so you can use it:

When your dog barks, for whatever reason, praise her and give her a treat.. Later, you can teach her to distinguish things to be barked at and things to not bark at, but first, teach her to bark on command. Since you’re planning to use her in protection, don’t use the word bark. Hello, maybe, or Howdy. Use some word that you’ll remember in the stress of the moment that won’t mean much to anyone threatening you. Don’t use her name when you issue the command – anyone threatening you would know, then, that you’re commanding her to bark.
After you’ve taught her to bark, teach her to be quiet. You do this by praising her and giving her a treat when she stops barking, being sure to say “Quiet” or whatever word you want to use, as soon as she stops.
But your best bet is schutzhund training. There are clubs around the country where you can go to get help and find a trainer.
Good luck!
Your Rottie may not have the temperment for protection or police type work. Even expert breeders of working GSD are thrilled when a litter of puppies has three or more puppies that show the potential to become PPDs or schutzhund dogs. You could try taking your dog to a shutzhund club for training, but be aware that she might just be too much of a lover for the work
Any decent trainer should be able to get a dog to “turn on”, using strictly defensive drives in the dog. Keep in mind, this is only going to create a dog that is a good “visual” deterrent. It’s quite possible she doesn’t have the temperament for that. The protection phases in the Rottweiler BST’s has been watered down to a point where the show dogs can pass the tests fairly easily. Their protection tournaments are almost too ridiculous to watch anymore.
Find a trainer that can evaluate her. For the most part, “visual” should be enough to keep the hoodlums at bay. Your location would help….I can probably point you to a good trainer.
How old is the dog and why are you exposing here to a situation where she is “licking” the bad guys?
Contrary to popular belief around here, most dogs, yours included would NOT protect you from a real threat and WILL run away…
Having said that, have your dog evaluated by a real trainer, one who understands that there are more then two drives in a dog and has the ability to see and work all of them.
Do not, under any circumstances listen to anyone that tells you to get involved in Sch…that is a sport and although is it a lot of fun, it has nothing to do with REAL world training.
It is VERY difficult to get killed on a Sch field, it is very easy to get killed in your line of work where YOU, not the police are the first defender/responder.
One last thing I want to mention to you in this. Most companies frown upon having a dog that may bite someone and bring on a lawsuit, be careful, if that dog were to bite someone you would be on your own and up a Creek without a paddle…
If you send me a private email I can point you in the right direction as far as trainers that are qualified to evaluate your dog. Take care!!
