Crate or SHELTER. Please do NOT use those stupid piddle pads, they only teach a dog that it’s okay to pee and poop in your house.
Well, what I do with my puppy is I make sure that I take him outside every single time he wakes up. Also, if he does go potty in the house I give him a firm NO and point my finger at him. Some people put their nose in it, but I think that’s really mean. You could also try getting some of those potty pads, you can get them from Petco, Petsmart, etc., and give your dog a treat and praise them after they go potty on it. Hope my answer helps!
Edit: I also forgot to add that I’m also crating my puppy. Here is a website that will help you learn on what crating is:
http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/crating.html
When you are home with your dog, take her to the place you want her to go every 30 to 45 minutes as well as after she sleeps, plays, and drinks water or eats. Tell her to “go potty”, give her 15 minutes or so and give her lots of praise and maybe a treat when she does go. Be patient, though, she may be a fast learner or it may take a few months before she goes there on her own. Consistency is key. When you catch her going potty where she isn’t suppose to, say “bad” in a firm voice, but ONLY if you catch her in the act. If you scold her after, she won’t understand why your are mad, even if you put her nose in it like some people might tell you to. Pick her up and put her wehere you want her to go potty and tell her to “go potty” in a calm voice. Again, praise her when she does. Dogs have a very short period of time after doing something where they will associate their behavior with a consequence, so the reward or scold must be immediate.
Also, look for signs that she has to potty. Most dogs will sniff around a lot when they have to go. This is your cue to bring her to the pad.
Try crate training, just google it. I wrote down every time my puppy peed or pooped, and when it ate and drank. After about a week I was able to figure out his bathroom schedule and how long he could hold it, from there I would take him out according to his schedule and if he went out side I would reward him. During the daytime only, at night no treats just back in the crate, I didn’t want him to get in the habit of getting up in the middle of the night just to get a treat.
my advice would be 1 not to leave food & water sitting out for her to drink all day. Give her the opportunity to eat & drink for 15-30 mins a few times a day and make sure you take her out straight away after. Also you may want to try PP pads- If she is going to go in the house- at least try to get her to go there instead of carpet. plus there is no real clean up – just toss out. Crate training also works well just make sure not to leave in for more than an hour or 2 at a time. as soon as you take her out of crate- take her potty outside.
Hope this helps! Good Luck :O )
You have to do your part to not let her potty in the house: it’s not just all on her to not go inside.
If you can’t trust her, get a kennel or a crate for her to be in. Even a bathroom is too large… Dogs will see the crate as their den, and instinct tells them to keep it clean and not go potty. When you can’t be around to watch her, put her in the crate. Then, when you’re home, take her outside and tell her what a good job she did when she went outside. Take her out every few hours and make sure there are treats and fun. Eventually, you can phase it out and she’ll instinctively go outside. And, if she doesn’t go potty when you know she should need to go, and would rather play instead, take her in and back to the crate. She’ll catch on that she needs to potty first before playtime. Eventually she’ll get it. Put her in the crate every time you are not ready to stop her mid-pee in the house; including cooking dinner, folding laundry, or your computer time. When you have your back to her is when she’s going to go. You want to catch her in the act, because scolding her after is only going to make her afraid of you and not of what she has done to the floor because dogs won’t remember that far back in time (even the few minutes).
The very best form of house training a dog is to kennel train them.
You have probably seen what I am talking about before at pet stores.
It is what a lot of people use to transport their pets when traveling on a plane.
The method is to put her in the kennel before bed or when not being supervised and then let her outside to go to the bathroom. Give her lots of praise and even treats for going outside. When you put her in the kennel, keep it positive. Put chew toys and stuffed animals in with her. Never use the kennel to punish her and do not leave her in the kennel for long periods of time.
Most dogs will not use the bathroom in a kennel but you want to make it large enough for her to move around, yet not enough room for her to use the bathroom in the back of it so that she can lay in the front of it.
keeping it positive is your goal. Soon she will catch on to the idea of going outside if you give her praise. And her bladder will condition itself to hold for a longer period of time. But I do Stress…Do not leave her in there for an extended period of time
okay i had a yorkie that just past away but in order to train him it was a little difficult. he was so spoiled that we just gave into anything. we also took him out every hour and taught him that he goes outside! MAKE SURE YOU KEEP IT EVERY HOUR FOR SUCCESS!
shes not going to like sitting in her pee so when she has to go potty, she will bark! thats when you know instantly that she has learned her lesson!
1) buy weewee pads at a pet store
2) put them around the house where she usually goes
3) if she goes everywhere, just put one down in a certain stop and make sure you keep telling her thats the spot you go on!
4) if she doesnt listen and you see her go potty somewhere else, you have to pick her up while shes going, believe me she will stop and put her on the pad. you GENTLY tap her nose and say “no, bad”
5) then shes gonna get a little nervous because you stood up to her
6) if she continues to go on the mat, you have to keep rewarding her with treats everything time she goes. now shes thinking oh this is the right thing to do and i get a treat
7) if she doesnt continue to go on the pad, you have to buy a little crate and leave her in it with one of the pads. let her pee on it the whole day.
9) while doing the weewee pads, still make sure she gets her fresh air EVERY HOUR until she’s fully trained and keep rewarding!! [:
HOPE I HELPED
Crate train and just take her for walks often. Reward her when she goes outside. Good Luck
You have to be very attentive to the dogs needs.
She’s small so doesn’t have the ability to “hold it” like bigger dogs do. Unfortunately, she’s gotten away with doing it in the house so it will take some time for her to get the idea that it’s not ok any more. You have to take her out on a regular basis, anticipating her needs. When you take her out, give her the same command every time .. I use “go go go”. When she does, give her Big Praise. Every time.
First thing in the am, last thing at night, and for starters every 2 hours during the day. Maybe even hourly when your just getting started. The reason is you want to be sure she has the chance to go. If you see her starting to act like she needs out, get her out. If she starts to go in the house, grab her and run outside. Once she starts to get the idea that this is the place to go, you can go out less often.
