CLICKER TRAINING-IS IT THE RIGHT KIND OF APROACH?
Animals are trained to follow positive behavior using mechanical devices. Such devices are called as clickers. A clicker is a mechanical device, which makes a noise. Clicker training is based on the principle of operant conditioning.
DOES CLICKER TRAINING WORK
Unlike other trainers, clicker trainers will have to wait until the animal understands before they could start the routine training sessions. When the animal learns to understand the cue then he is ready to learn the attitude and positive behavior. In the process of teaching the name of the behavior, the animals will repeat the behavior once the trainer says or signals the cue.
After such repetitions, the animal will become an expert in listening to watch the cue and is in a better position to understand that it will be rewarded for its good performance.
In case if the animals are not able to perform the positive behavior, the trainer assumes that he has not understood the cue and repeats the above procedure again. In doing so, he asks himself the questions like:
1. Has the animal understood the meaning of the cue?
2. Do the animals understand the cue in the environment where they were taught first?
3. Does he understand it in the new environment?
4. Is his reaction to the cue, in the new environment, same as in the previous environment?
After considering everything, the trainer can take the appropriate action. Make sure you follow everything correctly otherwise you might not be able to complete the dog training.
