You need to enroll both you & your dog in an obedience class. You do not know the proper way to train the dog & you both will end up screwing everything up.
Obedience training is almost mandatory if you want a dog that will preform right. You need to learn how to teach him. You can not teach something you don’t know how to do.
A lot of peoples dogs walk ahead of them but its better if you could traing them to walk beside you. A.K.A “heel”
heel is when you need your dog to walk close to you, such as in a crowded place, dangerous area, etc. If he is learns to be beside you-his front legs in line with your legs, he can graduate to “loose leash’ walking as long as he doesn’s start pulling and will return to the heel position when asked at the FIRST request.
Ahead. They might run around you but they usually walk ahead of you.
His head should be right beside your knee. Reasons are 1) so the dog doesn’t begin to think he’s the leader of the pack, and 2) if you want to change direction and the dog is ahead of you, you have to haul him around to get him facing the right way because he can’t see what you’re doing. If he’s beside you, he can see you change direction and can change too
