Is there any way to “teach” my dog to stop barking at every little thing?? Plz help?

I am moving into an apartment in nyc thats in my price range (yay), up until now i have lived here in a house, so my dogs barking hasnt been a problem.
The problem is, this apartment does allow loud dogs =| …I’ve had my dog for 12 years, she is a chihuahua…And i cant give her up…
She barks at everything from storms to kids playing outside. I was thinking maybe a dog training school but at her age, i dont know if that would work??
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

all i kno is that dogs bark at stuff that is strange or irritating but if you go from a small place to big place a lot more noises go on i guess.
I have a yorkie who did the SAME thing. It drove me nuts. I bought a water bottle at Target and everytime she barked I sprayed her. It didn’t take but 2 days for her to stop. Good luck.

She needs to be conditioned to the things that she barks at. Most likely they scare her since she is so small. At her age it is hard to condition her to these things especially since she’s been able to bark at them all her life. Dog training classes are great for basic obedience, but for barking, you may want to have an individual consultation with a dog trainer who can help you with your individual needs in the short time before you move into your apartment.
Your dog is never too old to teach it new tricks. Bring your dog to a trainer and get some tips on how to train your dog. Also you can fill an empty soda can full of pennies and tape the top shut, when your dog barks tell her “quiet” and if she’s not quiet then shake the can really loud and tell her “quiet” again. Have the treats ready and as soon as she’s quiet tell her good “quiet” and give her a treat. This isn’t going to work instantly your dog needs to be trained so you will have to do this on a regular basis and hopefully your dog will learn the word quiet and be quiet on command without having to skake the can. I have four chihuahua’s and one was a barker which got the others barking. I tried this can thing and it took a while but she’s so much better then before I used it. Good luck.
Well, you could always get those barking collars, it is an electrical collar that shocks them whenever they bark. But I always feel bad about those so you could also take your dog through a dog course at your local pet store. I am pretty sure they have barking lessons, my dog had a barking lesson and is terrific now! : )
