Mind a silly question about dog potty training?
I just got a small puppy and trying to potty train it to go outside in the yard, but he is tiny!!! How the heck can i tell he did it or not? even he did (on my carpet) is just a tiny bit! I really has no clue if he did it or not on the grass … sorry if this is a stupid question.

start going outside with him & check when he does , then if he does reward him with a treat
The only way to tell inside the house is to, I know it’s gross, smell it. When outside, go out with him and watch him! Make SURE you see him go before you let him inside, and when he does go outside, praise him like he just won a gold medal. Do this everytime he goes outside, and if he goes inside, but him out back and ignore him. It will take while before he truly understands that potty time is outside only, but you have to put in a lot of effort for them to learn this.
he doesn’t show any signs, like squatting or lifting his leg?
Go outside with him and watch him, or watch him from a window to see what he’s doing. You’ll be able to tell if he’s going or not. Plus, you’re going to want to be picking it up after he goes or you’re going to be stepping in little surprises you didn’t know were there.
It’s not a stupid quetion, it’s a good one. If you see him squat his hind legs, like a female peeing that’s a good way to find out. Or you can look at his genital area and see if it’s wet. And try to put him outside in an area with dirt or cut grass and nothing bigger than he is.
And since he’s so small, I’d say take him out every hour if you can just to be sure.
do you have a bricked area in your garden take him there and see if he goes on the carpet put your finger on the area where he went and see if its wet if or not he sounds adorable
ha ha, that’s so funny, i remember them days, they don’t last for long trust me, the rain drops will soon be puddles. Well you will get to know his routine, you’ll find that after he wakes he’ll probably need to go, i found with my male dog u can see his tummy going in and out little bit more when he pees, and stands really still, usually they sniff and sniff b4 peeing. I also put a puppy pad ( cos that’s wat i used indoors ) outside so they knew that they could go there too, that way u can c if they’ve been, i think the potty bit is the hardest bit, but it does click, so long as u both get in a routine
