Clicker training is a new way to train dogs. Trainers of show dogs teach their dogs’ tricks with clicker training, but anyone can use it for everyday skills that make dogs happy and cooperative members of the family. Clicker training works on the assumption that dogs want to learn to do what their humans want.
Dogs like to learn new things. They enjoy interacting with people. It’s hard for them to succeed because we have trouble communicating what we want from them. By giving a click at just the right time, the trainer tells the dog, “What you did, right NOW, is exactly right,” and then gives a reward. The dog says, “Hey that was fun! What did I do?” and tries to get the human to repeat the click and reward behavior. So we end up training each other.

Clicker Training, is a training mode based on operant conditioning which comes from the fact that the reinforcer make use of a small mechanical noisemaker that creates clicking sound called the clicker. Clicker training can be used to train animals other than dogs like horses, cats, pigeons, etc.
The real difficulty when training a dog, is in communicating precisely and at the right time when the dog is behaving properly. Usually when a dog did behave correctly, you praise him only after he move to some other behavior which may not be a good behavior and thus reinforcing something that you might not like. Besides the exact timing of the communication, your tone, loudness of your voice, pronunciation and speed may send confusing signal to your dog.

Dog Clicker training
Training your dog doesn’t have to be a process that makes you want to tear your hair out. There are several effective ways to make it a pleasant experience for both of you. Clicker training involves positive reinforcement instead of a series of punishments for your dog to learn how to behave. Many people find it works for them much faster than other methods of training. It is also very stress free for your dog to learn this way.
You will need to buy a good quality clicker online or from your local pet store. These devices are extremely affordable. Just about anyone that has every purchased one will tell you it has been one of the best investments they made. This serves as a very reliable source of communication. When it comes to dog training, it seems that everybody thinks that they know the best way to do it. When you get a puppy, you will likely receive tips and tricks from everybody you know that owns a dog. It is much like when you have your first child, everyone thinks that they know exactly what you are going through. Remember, though, that you are the dogs owner and master, nobody else, and you need to make the decisions that will benefit both you and your dog.
Clicker training has been recently resurrected as a way to train dogs. In simple terms, it is a box that makes a clicking noise when you press in with your thumb that lets the dog know that he has done a good job and that you are proud with him. Getting the dog to understand what the clicking sound means is what the training process is really all about.

Originally used in training animals such as dolphins and pigeons and popularized by animal trainers such as Karen Pryor, clicker training has become an effective means of training horses, cats, birds, and of course dogs.
Clicker training is the process of training an animal using a small plastic box, containing a metal plate, which, when pressed makes a ‘click’ sound, indicating to the dog the precise behavior that was correct. Another term you’ll hear often when it comes to this type of training is operant conditioning but the more popular name remains “clicker training”.
