I’m starting a new thread because my other one is so full.. My daughter is having nightmares which seem to be more from the ER visit than the acutal dog bite..I was there and it was traumatic for a 4 year old. Lots of shots in the face and stitches. She had 4 small wounds but all required a shot….plus they wrapped her up in a pillow case and blanket to enable movement. Anyway…I’m going to talk to the neighbor tomorrow about not getting rid of the dog. I’m going to discuss dog training courses and putting the dog away when there is company. Her 16 yr old daughter has been seeing a psychologist for varying emotions and I think that losing her dog….her best friend will only make things worse. I see that I am as much as fault in this as anyone. My neighbor is not a bad pet owner….she was just as guilty of being too trusting as any of us can be when we love our pets. It happens and I will not pass judgement and I refuse to let her dog be put down.

I got a 7 month old shepherd mix, who is a barker. I also have a 4 month old Husky/Lab mix. The shepherd likes to bark at the Husky when she has a toy that the shepherd wants, and if you tell the shepherd “NO Bark!” then she’ll bark at you!
What is a good way to train the dog not to bark in those situations?

Me and my wife just got a cute cocker named Huey and he is always biting at our fingers and tearing up the carpet, eating cardboard, chewing the wood on windowseals, even eating and tearing up the puppy pads….will the training classes at PetSmart stop him from doing that or will they just teach him treats and such?

Ultrasonic collars can be used to stop barking dogs. There is some debate about whether ultrasonic collars are humane. The trouble is we humans can’t hear ultrasonic sound so it’s hard to make a call on whether this is too loud or even painful for a dog. However, they all work on the idea that a loud noise that will startle a dog and cut off the barking.
Humans can’t hear this but dogs can as it’s an annoying, high-pitched sound that is triggered whenever the dog barks.
For collars the sound is set off by the dog wearing the collar; however there have been cases of these being set off by other dogs’ barking, or even other loud noises.
