Need some help with clicker training?

My mother has seen my increased interest in training my dog for therapy work and bought me a dog-training clicker. She says that my aunt used a similar one to train her labrador and that it worked wonders on him.

One problem…I have no clue whatsoever how a little red plastic clicker can train my dog. She’s very food-orientated and I’m worried that once the treats are taken away, the training will go right out of her brain. I don’t see how adding a small clicking noise will make any more difference.

I bought a new puppy recently. She is a Jack Russell Terrier and she is very hyper. That said, she’s going to need to be walked alot to keep her at least sort of calm. But when I try and put her on a leash she just bites at the leash and very rarely even follows me or walks at all.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to leash train her?

Help with Dog Potty training?

We recently aquired a stray (runaway) dog. It is a Yorkie. She is super sweet and my kids LOVE her. She is not potty trained and I will take her outside for 20 minutes and bring her back in and she will wet on the carpet. A couple of times she has gone outside and I praised, praised, praised her and then she would come in and poop. Another problem, that I think is odd, is that she will sit on the couch and just pee where she is sleeping. I didn’t think dogs would do that. She will sleep in the bed and pee and not move. I am a teacher, and off for the summer, so I have lots of time to work with her. I just don’t know what to do. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dog potty training help needed!!?

We’ve been living in an apartment for about two months and our one chihuahua has been constantly going to the bathroom in the house. We thought she had stopped and then we got a kitten. Now having a cat in the house, she starting going in the house again. We take the dogs out every two hours and we take them about three or four times during the night. Almost everytime we take her for a walk, she refuses to go outside. But once she’s back in the house and you leave her, she goes to the bathroom. We can’t afford to put her in training right now but we are desperate to fix her potty problems.
She is on a fixed routine and we praise her like crazy when she actually goes outside. She’s 1 1/2 years old and everytime she goes it is on the carpet.
We also clean the litter box constantly so that it doesn’t smell.

There are some basic dog training skills that just about anyone can perfect, so in this article I want to go over some of these with you, so that hopefully you can train your dog properly. Dogs are amazing animals and are so capable of just absolutely being brilliant, but it takes some dog training abilities on your part and plenty of patience. They will not pick up on things the first time that you try it, probably not even the second or third time either, but it will happen, do not give up. If you do give up then chances are you will probably have a very ill mannered dog on your hands, that does not listen to anything that you say and then you will have to worry about many other problems that could occur. Without the appropriate dog training a dog could actually get so bad that they can not be trusted, nobody wants to have to experience this type of thing, so take the time out right now to begin learning more ways to teach your dog and to improve your dog training abilities.

Anyone who has experienced the thrill of teaching a dog new tricks knows exactly what it takes to get their dog to listen to their commands and it usually does work too. It is very exciting when you finally start to see the results from using your dog training techniques on your dog and it will motivate you to continue working with them to teach them even more. Instead of having a dog that just sits around doing nothing, you could have a dog that is totally fit to be involved in dog shows or anything else interesting such as that. One of the easiest commands to teach a dog would have to be, to sit. Teaching your dog to sit should come pretty easy, if you are consistent and praise them every time that they do listen to you. Normally within just a week of working with them, you should have a dog that listens to the sit command and you will just be tickled if this has never happened for you before now. Dog training can be a great deal of fun, both for the owner and their dog, if it is done correctly.

I have a beautiful, loving 10 month old Rottweiler. Although she is big, she is still just a baby as far as dogs go. I obedience trained her very well as well as potty trained. It was a combo of crate training and consistent feeding , potty breaks and positive reinforcement. Just recently, she has started going #2 in the house! it has happened 3 times in the last week and she is doing it on our new area rug. When I find it, I don’t yell, I say her name and she comes in and knows exactly what she did wrong- she makes a sad face and bolts upstairs. I know she knows its wrong, I just don’t understand why she is doing it. We have a system and she even taps on the back door with her paw when she has to go, we go to our spot and I still praise her. She recently has not been able to go to doggie day care during the week because she has a canine papiloma (aka doggy warts), so during the day we leave her in the dining room with all of her toys and sticks and bed , etc and come home at lunch to walk and potty her. This has been happening on the weekends while she is getting a ton of attention and excercise. Can anyone give me a suggestion on what is going wrong? Is this common at 10 months? I can’t think of anything and wonder if I should be concerned and more importantly, what I can do. I feel like a failure.
At 10 months old, is it common to still be having setbacks?? I feel like I have read so many articles of people who have dogs that NEVER potty inside or have done it once but never again. Is this in any way normal?
