www.bighoneydog.com / Honey the Great Dane ‘re-learns’ her “house rules” in her new home in Brisbane. Honey was taught these rules from Day 1 at home as a baby puppy – really worthwhile putting in the time & effort to train these sorts of “house rules” as it makes the dog much easier & safer to live with. No worries about bolting out the door and running into the street or ‘counter-surfing’! Much easier to start young than to try & correct bad habits later. Just need some repetition & consistency in the beginning and some “refresher training” in new environments and the dog will stick to good habits. Having these same rules as the old home actually helped Honey settle quicker into her new one, as dogs like the security of consistent boundaries & routines.

Guide To Dog Training – Tricks To Get The New Pup House Trained

So you brought home a puppy and want to keep it as a pet. There are bound to be changes because of what you did. In order to avoid completely disrupting everyday household activities, better get puppy training started. It is something the new four-legged family member must learn right away.

Toileting learned by the puppy during his first couple of months’ stay in the house will stay with him for a lifetime. It’s critical that it be done right on the first attempt. Note: most dogs wind up in animal shelters because they had unresolved house training woes.

Dog Training Done The Smart Way

Don’t expect the puppy to be completely dog trained before hitting six months. This would be unreasonable. He can’t fully control his bowel and bladder movements yet. Puppies can’t be left alone for lengthy periods.

Puppy supervision during this time is also a must. However, owners can’t guarantee to always be there. If you’ll be unavailable for quite a while, keep the pup in a puppy-proof space with the floor covered in disposable, absorptive material or newspapers.

The tiny critter will pee and poo everywhere at first, but eventually he’ll favor one corner. Gradually make the paper-filled area smaller until the pupply limits doing his business on the toileting papers. Floor in the doggie-proof room should be different from that of other parts of the house. Soon, the puppy will only eliminate on that specific surface and nowhere else.

If the goal was to simply have the puppy go on papers, congratulations. You’re finished with dog training. For owners who’d rather have their pups do number one and two outside, use of the pup-proof room should be limited to instances when they can’t be home to supervise. Most puppies initially stay in crates. During this time, cover an area of the crate with paper. Dogs by nature are neat creatures. They’ll try their hardest to avoid dirtying the area where they sleep, boosting their self-control.

Outdoor training goes this way. You take the little barker out to an assigned toilet location at 45-minute intervals. Each time he goes on the chosen area, go crazy with the praises. This is a major learning accomplishment in living in your home so don’t be stingy with the compliments.

Feeding schedules for pets have to be consistent to be able to anticipate their needs. There’s nothing wrong with unrestricted drinking water access, but the same doesn’t apply to food. Ditto for letting him do whatever he wants in the house. Wait until he graduates from dog training before doing this. To hasten the process, put a collar with a long lead on him and tie the opposite end on your waistline. He’ll like the proximity and minimize the mistakes.

Still, accidents can’t be entirely avoided. When they happen, hold off the reprimands. Your dog won’t get what brought on the punishment. It might even make him nervous to the point that he thinks he was punished because he eliminated. You could find yourself back to square one.

Dog training requires both a sense of humor and a bit of patience. Be laid back without straying from the pup training schedule you outlined for your pet. The puppy will take its cue from your behavior and be relaxed as well. This will make learning the house training particulars easier.

The bonding period with the puppy is also a good time to begin introducing other directives or commands such as down, sit, stay and come. Go online to find out more about dog training advice. For related videos, go to my site

We’ve all been there so just follow along – You’ve just picked up your new puppy, you thought of the perfect name for him, you bring him and home you think he is just the cutest thing in the world. Now after a day or two it really kicks in that you are going to have to train this little pup and fast! Dog obedience training seems like a big mountain to climb but it really isn’t and it’s not as complicated as it may seem. Continue reading below for a few of my favorite dog house training tips.

Now I understand a few of the dog house training tips may be difficult to always follow because of your work schedule but just try to do the best you can!

The main idea of house training your dog is to get him or her to go to the bathroom outside. So whenever you first take your puppy outside you want to keep him out there until he goes or go back inside if enough time has passed, usually at least 10 minutes.

When doing your dog house training you should always want to take your dog outside every time after he eats, right after a nap, right after you take him out of his crate, before he goes to bed at night, and if he cries or whimpers during the night. Try to remember to only feed him or give him water when you will be around to take him outside. I know this process seems quite unlikely since no dog owners wants to let their pet dog without water but it will help prevent accidents in the house. Just use your best judgment when it comes to your dog and water.

When ever you are home and can take your new pup outside for him to do his business be sure to praise him when he does go. You’ll want to praise him enthusiastically and reward him with a treat. Another remainder is to never yell or hit your young puppy when they have an accident in the house. A puppy under 6 months old doesn’t quite have control over their bodily functions so just be patient with them and keep after it because they will get it.

If your puppy does happen to have an accident in the house the best way to deal with the situation is to clean up their mess quietly. Don’t yell and scream or punish your dog. The best way to deal with the mess on the carpet is to just ignore the animal for a period of time while you clean up. Any type of yelling or hitting the young animal will just results in a lack of compliance with your commands for him to do his business outside and further upset your dog house training.

A final tip I want to leae you with is about when you take your pup outside to let him do his business. Most people would want to bring him back inside right after he’s done, this is a bad idea. Your dog will start to notice every time after he’s done peeing he is immediatley brought back in the house and his outside fun time is over, and this is counter-productive to your efforts. So if you can, let him play around a little bit outside before you take him back in.

Training a dog can be very rewarding, but also very frustrating at the same time. Dogs of all ages require stability, guidance, obedience and love to prosper and act the way you we all want them to.

There are many dog house training manuals available online and in book stores and the best ones generally focus on the two main methods of housebreaking a dog which are the direct method and the paper method and basically most other methods are simply variations of these two.

Both the direct and paper method are equally effective and you can choose which ever one you prefer or a combination of the two. Sometimes however, your circumstances will dictate which method is more appropriate where you live.

If, for instance, you live in a high rise building and getting out to the outside world takes a few minutes then the paper method will definitely suit you better. This basically involves selecting a room, preferably a small one, in your home and designating it for your puppy or dog to do their business.

The direct method works on similar principles but rather than selecting a room inside, you should select an area of your garden where it is appropriate for your puppy or dog to ‘make their numbers’ as they say.

Good dog house training manuals will describe the two methods, and more, in detail and explain the different stages involved depending on whether you are training a young puppy, who will need the toilet every hour, or an older dog who may require extra attention but do not believe the old adage that ‘you can’t train an old dog new tricks’.

Using a good manual and the correct training methods will prevent lots of scrubbing of floors and carpets but there will always be a few accidents starting off so remember to have patience.

So what are you waiting for, in my opinion, one of the best dog house training manuals can be found at http://www.thedogtrainingsite.info . If you want to teach your dog to be well behaved and obedient, and the best methods of housebreaking a dog, you can also get a comprehensive dog training handbook covering all aspects of dog ownership, from understanding your puppy to problem-solving to complete obedience work.

If you search online you will find good puppy house training manuals which will show you how to potty train a young puppy in several different ways and you can choose for yourself which method suits you and your puppy best. There are many ways to go about house training your puppy, whether you are crate training him or her or not, the two most popular and probably most effective are the direct method and the paper method.

All good puppy house training manuals will have variations of these two methods and your circumstances will pretty much decide which to use in some cases. For instance, if your puppy is going to have easy access to the outside, as in your garden, the direct method is generally the way to go. If you live in a high rise building or somewhere where it is not as simple to get outside quickly then the paper method will be more suitable.

Essentially, what you will need to decide is where you want your puppy to do his or her business and then remain consistent in your training so that he or she learns reasonably quickly what is acceptable and what is not. For the direct method you will probably select a spot in your garden and for the paper method you will have to set aside a room, preferably a small one, in your home where you will teach your puppy to make his numbers, as they say.

Once you follow the instructions in your manual, and you have a little patience, house training your puppy should be a pretty painless and mess free experience.

So what are you waiting for, in my opinion, one of the best puppy house training manuals can be found at http://www.thedogtrainingsite.info.

Dog Training Is Fun!

Early Dog Training Is Essential. Not all dog training is created equal, and is more than just telling your dog to stop behaving the way he is right now; it’s one of the most important fundamentals of owning a pet. The important thing about dog training is to get started today because tomorrow the naughty behaviour will just continue.

Do you know that the key to successful dog training is getting your new pet to understand you? Dog training is for every dog or puppy and is not breed specific, it’s more a temperament and drive specific thing. It’s the process of training your dog to display certain specific acceptable dog behavior in various circumstances.

Basic dog training is available for most all breeds. Performing the correct dog training is something that will better your relationship with your dog. Dog training is definitely not rocket science and is easier than you would expect particularly if you can get help from a good dog training book or guide. Dog training is a must for ALL dogs large or small.

The final major mistake we all make is thinking that the dog training is over. The main advantage of traditional dog training is the high reliability of the trained behaviors. Other advantages are that positive dog training is easy to understand and fun to carry out. The thing needed in training your dog is what most experts define as “positive reinforcement”. This is a method of rewarding the dog or puppy when they do something “right” and leads to them wanting to do the right thing all the time.

Dog and Puppy House Training Stops Them Piddling And Pooping in the Wrong Places.

Raising a Puppy and Basic Dog Training is best started with a puppy. House breaking a puppy is an integral part of dog training and will control this behaviour for their lifetime. Did you recently acquire a puppy that you want to train? Some important things to keep in mind when training your puppy are gentle reinforcement, both positive and negative, always consistency and lots of initial practice. If you have a puppy, you must start training him or her early, and do it gently and correctly.

Do you want to teach your dog or puppy some useful commands and amazing tricks? Have you ever wondered what exactly is up with puppy in-home training? There is no time like the present for training (or re-training) a puppy or adult dog to fit into your human world. Puppy Training is for every dog, regardless of breed, size or temperament.

Dog Obedience Training and Behavior Modification. Behavior (or obedience) dog and puppy training is very important in today’s society because many people take their dogs everywhere they go. When your dog does something wrong or that is an undesired behavior, do NOT reinforce that behavior. Our recommended training course can effectively and humanely correct unwanted behavior, as well as establish proper behavior and respect. There is no question that behavior is reward driven, so always make sure to properly reward your dog when they do something acceptable.

Does your dog have some behavior that you just can’t find a way to stop? This type of bad behavior could have been avoided with early dog obedience training. But it’s never too late to start!

Solutions for all behavior problems, including aggression towards people and other animals.

Training allows caregivers to safely and humanely control their dog’s behavior and help them fit in better with their human partners. When you have a dog or puppy, dog obedience training can make a large difference in stopping or solving behavioral problems. Dog Obedience Training is a must when you want your dog listen to you. This is very important when you’re out on the street or in a public park.

Obedience and agility training for all dogs.

This helps to teach it more dependency on others and obedience to you. A new and novel approach to dog obedience training. Using rewards during obedience training is a very valuable tool.

One of the most well-known forms of training dogs for proper behavior and obedience is the leash and collar training. In fact, this practice has been going around for years and is almost considered traditional by trainers and owners alike.

Generally speaking, it is best to train puppies more than the adult dogs as they already have a background of experiences and established foundation of behavior, along side it are the disagreeable dog behavior problems. However, it is not true that you can’t teach old dog new tricks. However, trainable adults dog may seem, training them would considerably take much time, not to mention the effort one must exert to achieve satisfactory results

At any rate, a trainer must never use harsh forms of dog training equipment. Take for example the choke chain. This chain is neither for beginners nor recommended at all. However, an experienced trainer can use it but with the highest degree of care observance. Studies show that extensive neck and trachea injuries have been related with the use of this type of dog training equipment. It does precisely what its name says, it truly chokes and if your puppy is a puller, it will choke constantly.

There are other forms of gentler dog training equipment in the forms of collar. These are the Prong collar, the Halti, the le Leader and the Electronic Collar.

To start with your puppy’s leash and collar training fasten a lightweight leash on your puppies’ neck and just allow him go around the house to play and walk around. He might pull on it for quite sometime but the idea for now is just to let him get comfortable with the idea. Repeat this practice for a number of times a day for a couple of days and it will be noticeable that he’ll get used with the leash. It is important not to leave the puppy alone with this dog training equipment as he might choke himself if not properly It is important not to leave the puppy alone with this dog training equipment as he might choke himself if not properly supervised.

To train your dog or puppy to walk beside you Is not to allow them to pull you, and in return you should not be pulling them. Learn to control your dog using a leash and see to it that the leash does not choke him. Moreover learn the techniques of leash correction.

Another effective and productive dog training equipment is the clicker. Dog clickers make a very distinctive sound which lets you control your timing and eliminates the variation of tone in your voice due to fatigue, frustration and other factors. This is important as any inflection in your voice may impede the process of training the dog because they are very sensitive with changes in your voice, they may conceive it as negative. Moreover, with the use of dog training equipment like the dog clicker, you may effectively use the reinforcement or the reward system in training your pet.

If you are to use dog training equipment such as the clicker, you have to condition the mind of the dog to responding to it. You can use a method called operant conditioning whereas the idea is to associate a thing with the dog training equipment, for example treats in the form of food. See to it that every time the dog follows the command imposed by the dog training equipment, he perceives it as corresponding with a command with a reward. Also, it is important to associate your dog’s name with something positive. Again, this may be in form of a reward or a treat. To fully get his attentions to the dog training equipment, get him used to hearing the clicks following his name, afterwards the treat. This process with of the dog training equipment won’t take much time, but can be very substantial and constructive in the end.

To house train a dog and especially a puppy is very easy and only requires patience, consistency and awareness. Nobody wants a dog that messes in the house, so many people just leave their dogs in the backyard – never allowing them in the house. These backyard dogs many develop undesirable behaviour which is caused by a lack of attention. If you are the new owner, you might have a dog that has never been house trained.

House Training a Puppy

A puppy does not yet have the ability to wait for a door to open if it wants to toilet. You as owner are responsible for being aware of when the puppy needs to go out. Listed are few definite situations and times when you should take your puppy to the area in your garden where you want it to toilet:

The moment it wakes up, in the morning or during the day when it was sleeping.
Just after feeding times
When you see the puppy sniffing around and turning in circles
When you see the puppy going behind furniture. (It is not playing hide-and-seek!)

At these times, pick up your puppy and take it outside. Wait there, sunshine or rain, until it has done everything. Do not go inside, the puppy will just follow you and do it in the house. And it will be all your own fault! Never scold your puppy if it had an accident in the house, it was NOT his fault.

You can be very successful in the dog training basics if you are consistent. Your patience will pay off and very soon you will notice your puppy start going outside all on its own. Remember also to praise your puppy everytime it does its toilet outside. It is also a very good idea to take your puppy to a dog training school for puppy classes and basic dog obedience training.

House Training an Adopted Dog

To house train a young and even older dog is basically the same as training a young puppy. It will even be quicker, but you need to be very consistent. Make sure to praise you dog when it is doing right. You can even train your dog to touch a bell when it wants to go out. You can do that by using the method of clicker training.

In all your dog training, be it house training, basic obedience training, dog agility training, always use positive reinforcement methods and you will achieve your goals much faster and both you and your dog will enjoy it.

Potty training is one of the best things you are going to do for you and your dog. It will take some time and some thinking, but in the end, you wont be coming home to a floor of covered in pee and poop!

The first of these canine house training tips is this: While you are away, keep your dog on a hard floor. Don’t let them roam around the house, they might do their on the carpet. What do you think is easier to clean, carpet or a hard floor?

The second canine house training tips is play. When you get home, after a long day at work, you are going to be tired and quite possibly in a crappy mood. Your dog is the exact opposite. Your dog will be over joyed to see you and full of energy! What better way to start your night off than to play with your dog? He will want it and need it. This will help you create a lasting bond between you and your dog.

The third, and most important, canine house training tip is to stay calm. When you come home, as I have said, you might be in a crappy mood. You also might come home to pee and poop, pillow stuffing, and shoes that have been chewed up all over the house. STAY CALM! It isn’t healthy for you or your dog if you freak out. Expect to come home to a mess, and when you do clean it up and move on with your day!

These canine house training tips are very, very basic, but they are the most overlooked points that I see a lot of dog owners make. Dogs are dogs, not humans. You shouldn’t think they are humans. Dogs don’t get mad at you, and they don’t want to get even with you. Dogs live in the “here and now”. The only they they do is live, they don’t remember what happened yesterday, nor do they think about whats going to happen tomorrow!
