If you have never owned a puppy before, this article should help to prepare you for the many things that you should know and expect from your puppy and some of your responsibilities as the owner, as far as how you should go about properly training them. Dog training is very important and the earlier that you start with it, the much better off that you will be, no doubt about that one. Puppies come into our homes and you need to keep in mind that even though they are very small usually, they are also very, very inquisitive and will surprisingly catch on to many things very quickly. It is so important for anyone who is considering to get themselves a little puppy to definitely remember that you will just have to make sure that you apply some dog training skills on them right away, the longer that you put it off, the more difficult they will be to train.

Rewarding our little puppies with tons of praise and even some little treats, is the best way to teach them right from wrong. They love to make their owners happy and will go out of their way to every single time, as long as you have constantly given them that praise that they deserve for being such a good puppy and listening to your commands. Everyone wants to be the proud owner of a very well behaved lil puppy but most people do not want to put forth the effort to actually try and get their puppies trained by a professional or train the puppy themselves, which is why so many of us really need to get educated a little bit more about puppy care and the many reasons why it is so very important to properly train our animals, especially our little curious puppies. They are so adorable but can turn out to be very ugly later on if they are not immediately properly trained, so that they will know exactly how they are really supposed to act.

There are just a few things that everyone who owns a puppy should remember, when they are ready to begin applying their dog training skills. Learning just the few basics on dog training will really help to prevent any bad behavior out of your puppy in the near future. It will only take a little bit of your time and a great deal of consistency ofcourse, and then you will have the opportunity to show off your dog training skills to all of your friends and family, they will all be very impressed by your pooches good manners and adorable tricks. There are so many different books available that can teach you even more about dog training and all of the different dog training techniques. You will be so surprised once you begin learning more about this, surprised at how simple things could be for you and your new little friend with the most appropriate dog training skills.

Anyone who has experienced the thrill of teaching a dog new tricks knows exactly what it takes to get their dog to listen to their commands and it usually does work too. It is very exciting when you finally start to see the results from using your dog training techniques on your dog and it will motivate you to continue working with them to teach them even more. Instead of having a dog that just sits around doing nothing, you could have a dog that is totally fit to be involved in dog shows or anything else interesting such as that. One of the easiest commands to teach a dog would have to be, to sit. Teaching your dog to sit should come pretty easy, if you are consistent and praise them every time that they do listen to you. Normally within just a week of working with them, you should have a dog that listens to the sit command and you will just be tickled if this has never happened for you before now. Dog training can be a great deal of fun, both for the owner and their dog, if it is done correctly.

There are several different ways that you can go about teaching your dog how to sit whenever you tell him to and it is important for you to try a few different techniques with him and once you are seeing that he is listening to you finally, then you will know which technique to stick with. Some people can teach their dogs to sit just by saying it over and over and gently pushing down on their backside and once they do it then they are given a treat or a great deal of praise. Others find that taking something that the dog loves and kind of moving it slowly around their head and behind them, saying the word sit to them in a stern tone each time, works for them the best. It just depends on your preferences and what your dog responds to the best. Finding what works for you and your dog is what is important, do not let anyone else try and tell you how you should be doing it, if what you are doing does work. Advice is usually a good thing but for some reason there are those people that believe that they know what is best for you and your dog and sometimes that can really be annoying, so do what works for you ok.

Whenever you do decide to begin dog training your dog to teach them to sit for you, just remember to be patient with them because sometimes certain dogs might take a little bit longer to catch on than others would. Your dog can be your best little friend and when you do start seeing results from using your dog training techniques, you will just be totally excited and will be even more excited about showing it off to all of your friends and family members, so have fun with it!

You may find that training your dog to be obedient is a long and frustrating process. All you want him to do is listen when you call him and yell at him, sounds like it should be simple.

When looking for a dog or puppy, you no doubt put a lot of time and effort into picking out the perfect “dream” companion. After you have been together for awhile you spoil him with as much love, affection, and attention you can give him. But after awhile, after you’ve tried everything you could think of, you find that your “perfect” dog still isn’t trained and is starting do things that annoy you.

You realize that you need to do something about your dogs obedience training.

A dogs obedience training includes the process of teaching a dog to exhibit certain desired behaviors in specific circumstances. Some of these circumstances include:

* Training in dog basic obedience commands (part of the dogs obedience training)

* Guide dog training for the blind

* Rescue dog training to help locates victims in a disaster situation

* Training for hunting dogs so they can learn to perform instinctive behaviors at appropriate times

The specific behaviors taught in each circumstance are different, but they each use similar underlying principles.

For your dogs obedience training the goal is to establish the correct relationship right from the start. When you first bring your puppy home, he has gone from an environment of a natural pack order with his brothers & sisters and his mother, and some contact with the breeder. When the puppy sees that there are no other dogs around he might start to think he is in charge now. You will need to start establishing to the puppy that you are in charge not him.

Puppies are fine with that because in the wild as pack animals, dogs have the natural instincts that cause them to accept training. Dogs are by nature either leaders or followers and you must instill in your dog that you are the leader of the pack.

The Basics of Your Dogs Obedience Training

This starts with basic obedience commands, and these commands are the key to having a good relationship with your dog. This stage of the dogs obedience training should be gentle and supportive, without punishment. At this point they should be starting to learn the simple commands like “come”, and being sure to use praise quite a bit when the dog responds correctly to the command.

Teaching More Complex Concepts

When your dog has mastered the more basic commands, start to introduce more complex concepts (like “stay” or “sit”), and that you break down the task into smaller, easier exercises first. For instance you should first teach the dog how to sit properly, before you ask him to respond to the command.

Consistency in dog training is important along with positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement is must be done immediately during or after your puppy has followed the given commands, or there is a chance that he could associate the praise with something else besides the intended action.

As you are beginning your dogs obedience training remember that timing and consistency are key when training with your young puppy. Every day you should be planning, when and how to work on these essential skills with your dog, and then try to perform them at the same time every day.

The training sessions should be fun, and should even include games, praise, and hugging. Ideally your dog should be able to look forward to each session, as he would his daily exercise.

Dog agility training is an excellent way to tap into your dog’s natural strengths. You can utilize your dog’s speed, flexibility, energy, and hunting instincts and more. It’s a way for dogs to maintain their inherent abilities that they would have used in the wild to track down their food, protect their lairs and make their way across difficult and varying terrain.

What is dog agility training?

Dog agility training involves a special course that forces your dog to use certain skills, such as jumping, zig-zagging, climbing and running. It is a team effort involving dog and owner, although the dog does most of the heavy work. It is a special form of training that is suitable for the working and hunting breeds specifically. Dogs must make their way through the course in a set period of time. The faster dog wins.

The agility trials are professionally judged and rewarded with ribbons, cups and other prizes. It’s more than training – it’s a fun sport that is gaining in popularity.

What it takes to participate

To participate, puppies must be at least 9 months of age. Retirement from the competitions is generally around 8 years of age, but it depends on the dog’s overall health and fitness levels.

All dog breeds are admitted, but its best if your dog has the personality to participate. Some dogs would rather relax while others have energy to spare. The more energy your dog has, the more suited he is to dog agility training because it requires significant output in both energy and speed.

Dogs that consistently obey the sit, stay, down and heel commands are ready to compete, however they must trust their owner. Otherwise, they will be reluctant to do some of the challenges like running through a tunnel or balancing across a narrow beam.

Benefits of Dog Agility Training

It enhances your dog’s inherent abilities, the skills it wants to use. Your dog will become more alert, vigorous and confident. Your dog’s problem-solving abilities will improve. It will reinforce the bond between you and your dog and perfect the communication skills between you.

It will put physical demands on your dog that will improve coordination, endurance and fitness levels as well as your dog’s behavior in other areas of life.

How much training is required to enter agility competitions?

For most dogs, 6-9 months of daily training is necessary to prepare them for the more rigorous exercises in agility competitions. You can help your dog prepare by encouraging fun games like go fetch, tug of war and catch. This helps to build and strengthen muscles that will be needed for agility work. It will also show your dog that this type of work can be fun. Graduate to similar exercises such as jumping across distances and over obstacles, and running through increasingly longer tunnels. In time, your dog will come to trust your requests and look forward to these exercises.

There is so much more to dog agility training, but these steps will get you started and help you determine whether or not you and your dog are suited to this type of work.

Take time to visit the dog agility competitions near you. Watch the process and the types of challenges that dogs face. See how well they do and imagine your dog participating. This will give you a first-hand look at how they are run.

Talk to the participants, organizers and judges and they will be happy to answer your questions about dog agility training and competitions.
