DOG OBEDIENCE TRAINING

WHO’S IN CHARGE?! MAKE THE PUPS KNOW IT’S YOU!They can ruin everything from your bags to your clothes, your bed sheets to your curtains.

HUNTING THE RIGHT HOUNDWithout the right training, some working dogs can be difficult to handle, even dangerous. When these dogs bite, they don’t let go. Generally, sturdier, active dogs love kids, but unless your dog is well-trained, he may pose a risk to your children. To know more about these canine kinds, here are some areas to consider in selecting what mutt to adopt:

Herding dog breeds. Mixed Dog Breeds. These fiery little dynamos would dig up underground dens and burrows while barking furiously, forcing the inhabitants out where hunters awaited. The Akita (Japan), the Komondor (Hungary), the Portuguese water dog, the Newfoundland, the Saint Bernard (Switzerland), the Alaskan Malamute, the Bernese Mountain dog (Switzerland) and many more make this group a veritable United Nations of dogs. Some of the oldest breeds of domestic dogs are the speedy sight hounds. Often used interchangeably, the terms “mixed breed” and “crossbreed” have slightly different meanings. They range from the tall and lanky Irish wolfhound to the short-legged dachshund in size. They are familiar faces from numerous media spots, including the movie Air Bud and the TV Show Full House. Reliable, brawny and harnessing first-rate stamina, they make great companions for adults and children alike. The national symbol of England, known for its strength and determination, it has been out of work since bull-baiting went out of fashion in the late 19th century. Both routinely in the top five breeds, the Labrador retriever and the golden retriever together account for nearly one-quarter of the more than 1 million dogs registered with the AKC every year. This is the catchall group for breeds that did not seem to fit in elsewhere, from the cuddly Bichon Frise, a little too big to be considered a toy, to the striking Dalmatian and the stunning but difficult Chow Chow.

THE ANATOMY OF A CANINEIn temperate weather, canid’s simply breathe in through their noses to stay cool: nasal glands secrete fluid, and its evaporation within their nasal chambers creates a cooling effect. But among domestic dogs, selective breeding has produced a number of different ear types, each with its own names, courtesy of dog breeders, fanciers and kennel clubs. Most mammals sweat to keep cool. Other breeds such as German shepherds and golden retrievers have been trained to detect hidden drugs, explosives, and even termites. Don’t limit yourself in only considering its breed. Wire-haired, button ears can be seen in Shetland Sheepdogs and many terriers. But an absence of sweat glands on the canid’s skin forces it to rely on other means. Four toe pads and claws are located below the toes on the underside of a dog’s paw. The wire-haired coat of the dachshund features a higher quantity and density of the harsh primary hairs in a dog’s coat.

WHY THE HELP?If your dog doesn’t make progress at all, this must be because of this fact. This is designed for beginners, so all you have to do is follow the simple instructions given in your manual, You won’t have to worry about your dog. It’s also guaranteed to be safe for your mutt. It doesn’t matter how old your dog is, regarding ‘pulling on the leash’, do you feel like your dog walked you when you get back from walking your dog? Learn how to teach your dog to stop pulling on the leash! How about ‘chewing on everything’? Finally, be able to stop your dog from chewing on and destroying everything you own! Does your dog love ‘harassing cats’? Do you or a neighbor have a cat that is constantly being harassed by your dog? Learn how to stop this! What about ‘fighting other dogs’? Is your dog aggressive towards other dogs, or has a bad habit of fighting other dogs? Learn how to stop this dangerous habit! Oh no and then there’s ‘biting people’! Does your dog nip or bite at other people? Learn how to stop this scary habit! For those mutts that are ‘eating feces’, does your dog eat feces? Learn how to stop this disgusting habit! Let’s not forget ‘running out the door’! Does your dog bolt out the door as soon as it is opened? Finally, be able to stop this! What about those dogs that ‘have a bad temper’? Does your dog have a bad temper? Learn how to control and stop your dog’s temper problems! Does your dog get scared by loud noises? Learn what’s causing this and how to stop it! Is your dog pulling out his/her hair? Learn what’s wrong and how to stop this! Do you notice your dog ‘biting himself/herself?
Most people considering adopting a kitten are nervous about the prospect of figuring out how to potty train a cat. Anyone who has owned a dog knows how difficult potty training can be, and unfortunately these people mistakenly assume that potty training a kitten is just as hard.

Unlike dogs, kittens are naturally inclined to use the bathroom in a litter box if they cannot go outside. Though accidents do sometimes occur, learning the best way to potty train a kitten will reduce the number of messes you have to deal with during the litter-box training stage.

Invest in Multiple Boxes

If you have more than one kitten, or are planning to let your kitten have the run of the house right away, invest in multiple boxes. One of the primary reasons new kittens have accidents is that they simply can’t find the ‘box’ in time.

Having two or three litter-boxes in easy to access locations will ensure that your kitten always has a box close when they need to use the bathroom. Remember; once you have placed these litter boxes in your home don’t move them.

Your kitten or kittens will get confused if they go to a place associated with a litter-box only to find an empty space. Ok let’s move on to tip 2 on how to potty train a cat.

Don’t Use Scents

New cat owners are often attracted to scented kitty litter. What better way to deal with a box than mask the smell right? However, even if you think scented kitty litter is the best way to deal with multiple boxes your kittens won’t agree. Strong fragrances will actually repel a kitten and make them avoid the litter box.

When they smell an odor that they don’t associate with “bathroom” they will assume the litter box is for something else now, and will start using the bathroom in other parts of the house.

Clean the Litter Boxes

Tip 3 on how to potty train a cat is very important. When you are trying to potty train a kitten, you must keep the litter boxes extremely clean. While older cats may tolerate a box that is less than fresh, a kitten will not be so forgiving. Your kitten does not want to stand, or walk, in their own urine or feces. If you let the litter-box get dirty, the kitten will not use it. If you want to avoid accidents, and bad odors, keep the boxes in your home spotless. Even though you might not like cleaning the boxes, chances are you will like scrubbing kitten urine out of your carpet even less.

Owning a kitten is a fun experience that your entire family will enjoy. However, potty training your kitten is an important responsibility and you must do your part to make sure your kitten has a clean, safe, place to use the bathroom.

It is most important to know that most common kitten litter training mistakes occur without the owner even knowing they are doing something wrong. While there’s a lot to learn to toilet train a kitten, if you’re willing to put some effort into learning how to potty train a cat then I’m willing to let you in on my experience.

Article by Xavier Tyler

You may think that dog obedience training would be very difficult especially if you have never trained a dog before. Of course you want your dog to behave, but how do you get it to do so? What if you make a mistake? Dog obedience training doesn’t have to be as hard as everyone imagines it to be, you just have to know the right things to say and do. As a dog owner dedicated to the goal of training your dog to behave, it is important to be patient, structured, and loving when training your dog. It is important to note that your dog isn’t the only one who has room to learn new tricks. When you start dog obedience training, you are training yourself as well. You will learn a lot besides just the best method to train your dog by, such as the personality and attitudes of your dog. The more you get to know your dog and the way he or she behaves, the easier it will be for you to figure out the best training methods. When you are training your dog to be obedient, it is very important to be firm and consistent in your training techniques. You need to be patient with your dog because it will take a little time for your dog to learn to be obedient. If you stay consistent the way you are training them and be sure not to give up, your dog will learn what you are teaching them, it can just take time. It is important not to give up on them if they haven’t made any progress after just one day. If you keep your eye on the prize and work with them, all of your hard work will pay off. In order to make the job of training your dog easier, you should begin training your dog to do obedient as soon as you get your dog. Although pupply behaviors can be very cute, you are sending your dog the wrong signals if you allow your dog to misbehave in the beginning when it is just a puppy. You must establish dominance over the puppy and set firm rules the very moment he comes home. The most important and tricky step in training is the beginning of potty training. Although jumping, biting, chewing on objects, and running away from you are cute in the puppy stage, it is important to teach your dog from the beginning that these behaviors are not acceptable. Because dogs are creatures that work in packs, you need to let your dog know that you are the leader of this pack. You can become the Alpha by making sure that your dog knows who is in charge of this family as soon as he or she comes home. You do not have to start being a task master as soon as your new puppy comes home, have some fun with them, but remember to reign in bad behavior from the very start. Even while you are training them, don’t forget to play with your new puppy and have a lot of fun with them. In order to be prepared for you new puppy’s arrival into your home, it would be a great idea to do a little research on dog obedience training before you bring your new puppy home. Even if you have already picked up your furry little friend in a hasty decision and are now browsing for ways to train him, you can still find hope. But you must understand that you make yourself known to him as the alpha of your little back as soon as possible. You must also remain constant in the training you put him or her through.

Article by Benz Slow

Training your dog requires a great amount of patience especially when you are teaching it to potty at the right place. A problem with dogs is that they instinctively poop and pee anytime and anywhere they like. With potty training, you can teach your dog to do his or her thing when and where it really should.

Here are some points to consider when potty training your dog. First is confinement. Confining your dogs can sometimes be an ideal way of properly potty training your dog. You can use cages or crates to confine your canine pet. Just make sure to get the largest crate as possible to make sure that your dog can properly move about inside. The reason for confining your dog is to teach him not to potty on the crate or cage. Dogs do not like to potty in areas where they usually stay or sleep, so when nature calls for them, they would normally find a way to get out of the crate to potty.

By then, you can already show your dog where exactly you would want it to potty. Doing this whenever your dog wants to relieve itself will create a pattern that your dog will follow even if you will no longer need the help of a crate.

Second thing you must consider is to always include praise in your training. Try using a leash to control your dog from going around while training or running away. You can also use this to direct your dog to where it should potty. It would also help if you teach your dogs some words that would help him understand what you would want him to do, say for example, ‘go potty’. Use your commands over and over so that your dog will become familiar with it and learn to follow it as well. Always remember to reward your dog by giving him sweet and simple praises or giving him food treats for every correct response that he makes. This will make your dog happy, thus making him easier to train.

Also, you need to have the proper timing as to when you should give your dog the freedom to potty on its own. Some dogs learn potty training fast while there are those that need more time. You must learn to be very patient and observant potty training your dog to see the your pet’s progress.

Be reminded of some signs which dogs usually show when they are about to potty. These signs may include sudden disinterest to play; circling restlessly and running out of the room suddenly. You will learn to familiarize with these signs so you will not have much of a problem in potty training your dog as you go along. By then, you can be confident that your dog will have shown proper potty behavior.

As a rule, agility training should start while the pet is still a puppy. However, owners could still facilitate training with older dogs. The question “when is the dog considered old for agility training” is central to choosing when to start training the dog. Being “old” greatly varies from dog to dog, from the extent of a dog’s experience to the innate and natural tendencies it has. In short, there is no specific age at which the dog should be restrained from training. However it is always far easier to start training with much younger dogs since their learned behaviors are still not rooted into their habits. For choosing old dogs for training, the handler should not create the impression that the dog would no longer learn so there’s no need to waste time. The attitude of the dog as much as that of the trainer is both highly essential to faster learning. The more dedicated and patient the owner is the faster the dog learns. There are several approaches to starting training for agility. A few of which are discussed here briefly: Physical exercise. The introduction to agility training should start with physical exercises. If the handler has enough interest to dedicate on training the dog, the age will no longer matter for it is the condition that will rule over. Simple exercises like jumping or hopping may agitate the dog and encourage him to move a little bit. For puppies, these exercises are much easier to do since they have enough energy to use. Let him play aroundLike teaching little children, the easiest approach to agility training for younger puppies is to turn the exercises into a series of games. The majority of puppies are capable of passing through tunnels and chutes so take advantage of this chance and introduce the tunnels, obstacles and the training area itself as huge play ground. This approach will create positive impressions on him which will also prepare him for future training. Promote his agilityIf you don’t have a sufficient area for setting up obstacle courses, it is best to use certain games that also encourage agility. Simple equipment like improvised tunnels or walls could be made to augment training. Keep it shortDogs don’t experience passion when it comes to activities but they have the innate desire to please their owners. This means that they don’t get devoted unless they are rewarded for good actions they have made and that you show your favor for their actions. Their attention span is also very limited so they could not continue training for extended hours. If you want to start training your dog for agility, establish the rule that you should keep each training session and each lesson as short as possible. You don’t have to finish everything in one sitting. You should divide each exercise into sections that the dog could easily understand. Also never end with a negative note. Always ensure that the dog finishes each exercise with praise. Training your dog for agility does not lie on how old or young he is, it lies in the foundation of responsiveness, independence, drive to work alone and to follow the command, and your desire to work with him with enough patience and knowledge of his capacities.

When it comes to dog training, it seems that everybody thinks that they know the best way to do it. When you get a puppy, you will likely receive tips and tricks from everybody you know that owns a dog. It is much like when you have your first child, everyone thinks that they know exactly what you are going through. Remember, though, that you are the dogs owner and master, nobody else, and you need to make the decisions that will benefit both you and your dog.

Clicker training has been recently resurrected as a way to train dogs. In simple terms, it is a box that makes a clicking noise when you press in with your thumb that lets the dog know that he has done a good job and that you are proud with him. Getting the dog to understand what the clicking sound means is what the training process is really all about.

To start clicker training, you much purchase a clicker. Many pet stores have books now about clicker training, and you may want to get one of them as well. Start by training your dog with one trick, like the “sit” command. Tell the dog to “sit” and try to make him sit on his rear. The second that he does as you’ve commanded, give him a small treat and click the clicker box while you do so. Every time you give the dog a treat, click the clicker box. This will make the dog equate the clicking sound with good behavior. Before long you will not need to give a treat as reinforcement, and will only need to use the clicker box.

You tend to see dogs who have been clicker trained on the competitive circuit lately. If you have ever turned on a channel and seen dogs running through various obstacles, you have likely seen a trainer near them with a clicker box. These can be a great way to train your dog, as long as you follow through with the “command, treat, click” procedure. It is a great way to train, not only because it lets the dog know exactly how happy you are, but because it makes you, the owner, responsible for doling out the praise as well as the punishments. And, as dogs tend to respond better to praise than they do to punishments, you will want to make sure to use the clicker box as often as they deserve to hear it.

When it comes to dog training clicker training methods, I often employ efficacious techniques to make sure my dogs Zico and Brylow are well disciplined.

You know those military issued shotguns?

Well those guns are effective…and so are the clicker training methods that I’m about to share with you!

You see, I uncovered these effective dog clicker training techniques from a very comprehensive European based clicker training course. The reason I got this course was due to some disciplining issues I had with my dogs, Zico and Brylow.

I often had to bribe them with treats, otherwise they won’t behave. So, I really wanted them to be on their best behavior naturally instead of resorting to constant bribing!

So, I employed the methods outlined in that dog training clicker training course and after a relatively brief period of time, Zico and Brylow are now officially the saints of pooches in my book.

Now try clicker train your dogs with these 2 effective tips:

(1) When subjecting your dog to training, be sure to use treats that are substantially better than his everyday meal and opt for very soft treats that can be chewed quickly. Don’t use those medium hard treats.

The last thing you want is to waste valuable training time waiting for your dog to finish chewing those hard treats. You want to be able to click, present the treat, get your dog to chew quickly and then resume training.

(2) Improve yourself first! To be an effective clicker trainer, you need to learn to thumb the clicker quickly.

Here’s a good exercise for you to try out:

Throw a ball in the air and the moment the ball hits the ground, you immediately press the clicker. Keep doing this until your timing is 100% precise. Remember, dog training clicker training would be a lot easier if you know how to get your timing correct.

By the way, if you’re interested in downloading a comprehensive href=”http://www.articlesbase.com/pets-articles/dog-training-clicker-training-exposing-2-military-shotgun-clicker-training-tips-2054275.html”>clicker dog training course with advanced videos designed by expert clicker trainers, follow this link: http://www.positivehomedogtraining.com/Download straight onto your computer so no need to wait for the course to be shipped.
