Fantastic Ways to Stop Dog From Biting – Part 1 of 4 – Stop Dog Biting for Good

This article will be Part one, of a four part article training series dealing with considerations to stop your dog from biting.

Stopping your dogs from biting is an absolute necessity. Preventing your dog from learning how to bit is best accomplished when the dogs are actually puppies. Puppies are full of energy and yearn to play with people and things. However, puppies are very easily taught right from wrong. If you are able to be patient and consistently enforce good and bad behavior patterns, then they will be able to learn that the biting pattern is a bad thing.

Toys being made available within quick reach is a must. Puppies love to play games. Your job is to make sure that these games to do not include a puppy being taught to aggressively interact with a person. If you toss the dog around and wrestle with it, then it causes the dog to reinforce fun with aggressive playing, and possibly biting.

A common response tactic when a puppy nips at a human is for the person to yell: “Ouch!” and to respond dramatically and loudly so that it startles the puppy. This is a natural tendency of puppies to respond that way. Why? When puppies play with each other and one hurts the other a little too hard, the one responds with a loud yelp, or whimper, and it lets everyone know the playing was a little too aggressive. If you do the same, your dog will know you are hurt, and that it crossed the safety line.

Part 2 of our article series will review physical punishments and how every member of your family needs to have the same training goals, rewards, and punishments systems in place for a successful dog training.

If you want to know how to train a Rottweiler, then you’re in luck because I’m going share with you several effective ways to train this good-natured and versatile breed.

You see, several months ago, I brought home a black Rottweiler pup which I named Ozil. Now giving obedience training to Ozil was pretty hard at first as he was really stubborn!

Luckily, I found a clicker dog training course containing techniques and lessons that are specifically designed to shape desirable habits in any dog.

So, after several intensive training sessions, using the course material as my personal dog trainer so to speak, I finally saw some positive changes in Ozil’s behavior.

You may follow this link to check out the training material

I’m very happy that Ozil is no longer as stubborn as he used to be, and he’s currently doing very well in obedience and also dog agility training!

Alright listen; learning how to train a Rottweiler is not exactly rocket science, okay…Here are some effective ways to help you get started:

(1) Obedience training is mandatory and I always use a clicker to obedience train my Rottweiler. Since I discovered clicker behavior shaping techniques, I’ve been using them almost exclusively.

If you want to be good at clicker training, then you should work on your observation and reaction skills. Improve these attributes and you’ll soon discover how quickly your dog can pick up a particular behavior. Bottom line: The better you get, the faster your dog will learn.

(2) Teach your dog behavior fluency. This is a central concept in clicker training and it is what makes this form of dog training extremely effective. Also remember to measure your Rottweiler’s behavior fluency rate.

You can easily do this by counting the amount of times your dog is able to perform the behavior that you’ve taught him within say 30 – 60 seconds.

(3) Dog socialization is also mandatory. Teach your Rottweiler how to be around other dogs and properly introduce him to strangers. Rottweiler requires plenty of attention, socialization and should not be tied for extensive periods of time.

So once again, if you need a jam-packed handy reference on how to train a Rottweiler using clicker behavior shaping techniques, go to this link: Canis Clicker behavior Training Course

Use their 100% tested and proven training techniques that come with 4 full video exercises.

Anyone who has ever owned a dog knows how important it is to think about maybe applying some of those dog training techniques that you have heard from other dog owners. There are different ways to go about training any dog but some of the ways that people choose are just not acceptable at all and really do not work either. If you are going to get into dog training your dog you should really consider studying it for awhile first, so that you do not make some of those big mistakes that others have made and are still making now. There are wrong ways to go about training your dog and there are right ways, you should really try and make sure that you keep all of those negative dog training “techniques” away, because all you are doing is setting yourself and your dog up for some serious disappointment. It is now time for you to learn a little bit more about some of the very best ways to begin dog training and also learn more about some of the things that you should not be doing when trying to train your dog the right way.

The most important thing for all dog owners to keep in mind is the fact that negative dog training is only going to frustrate you, as well as your dog. There is never any reason why any dog owner should decide to punish their dog by screaming at them, cursing them or hitting them, this is just unacceptable behavior on the owners part and it is not an appropriate way to go about training them, it just will not work, ever! The very best way to teach your dog and to properly train your dog is by using positive reinforcement every single time, as well as giving them delicious treats when they do something right. Dog training is most efficient when the owner keeps his cool and treats the dog the way that he would want to be treated, without all of the negativity occurring. Start practicing right now with your dog, using positive reinforcement and rewards because it does truly work, just about every single time actually. It is your responsibility to teach your dog good habits and maybe even a few little cool tricks too. They are animals but can be very well behaved with the right kind of dog training.

Whenever your dog does what it is that you are telling him to do, then you should always remember to praise him plenty, give him a treat and never forget the positive reinforcement tip because it does work when dog training. That sweet precious dog of yours is highly capable of being the best dog around and with the right kind of dog training and a very good, happy attitude, the dog will just really surprise you, to say the least.

You DON’T have to struggle with your dog’s behavior issues any longer. Get the facts and eliminate your dog’s behavior problems now.

Basic dog training is essential to motivate the development of effective distance and communicate with your dog. We focus here on two ways to motivate your dog, and why is it better to use than the other.

Both your dog’s learning

Pain or discomfort
Fun

As the experience of learning and motivation

Dogs are primarily motivated to seek pleasure and avoid pain. As a dog learns to associate pain or discomfort with a special interest in physical behavior around this behavior in the future. Moreover, a dog that is often associated with the experience of this specific behavior problem and again. These are the motivations that are used in basic training dog obedience to motivate your dog to learn.

The use of individual motivation to learn

Pain or discomfort

For decades, the main methods used to motivate the dog to obedience training is performed using basic techniques and equipment that pain or discomfort is a dog that does not behave correctly. With this motivation of owners learn to focus on the misbehavior of the dog. They learn to use sports equipment and techniques that lead to pain or discomfort your dog when the dog behaves inappropriately. If your dog has learned through this type of obedience training a certain behavior constantly led to unpleasant or painful experience of dogs to prevent or stop the problem that occurs in pain. Owner motivated to follow their orders to their dogs to avoid pain.

Fun

How to motivate your dog to follow his orders and direction to their attraction to the pleasure is to reward your dog for desired behavior. Especially with the basic training dog obedience your dog has already done most of the behaviors you want, how to sit or just do not automatically know what type of behavior that corresponds to the order. This is effective communication, which comes into play when the command associated with good behavior, you must send the dog, then the motivation, behavior that asks if you request it. You motivate your dog for the pleasure they give a reward to respond correctly to the search commands. Why dogs are motivated to seek pleasure, things that once your dog associates good happens when you take a particular behavior, motivated to repeat this behavior because he has learned, that produce pleasure. Professional trainers with this reasoning more often use a strategy called clicker training.

Why is the motivation of your dog for fun is the best

With this motivation, to establish mutual trust and friendship between you and your dog
Do not compromise your safety or your dog
Knowing that your dog is easier and faster
Your dog will enjoy training, and time with you in training
Training will be a fun and enjoyable

Tie all this

Your dog has two primary motivations to learn. One is to avoid pain or discomfort, and the other is to gain pleasure. You can train your dog using either of these motivations, but using pleasure to motivate your dog to learn builds the best bond with your dog. It is safe, effective, and fun. Professional trainers who use pleasure as the motivation for a dog to learn most often choose the clicker training strategy because it is quick, and effective. His experience and training your dog will be very different depending on the motivation you need to train your dog obedience basic strategic use Clicker Training for effective training and fun.

Clicker training your dog is a simple, easy and harmless way to get your dog to obey. This is a simple gadget that makes a metallic click sound when pressed. How you use it is to click the device at the precise moment that your dog correctly does what is asked of him.

For example if you want your dog to sit, you give the “SIT” command and click the device at the precise moment that his backside hits the floor.

Clicker training your dog can also be carried out even if you don’t have a clicker. You can actually use your voice in exactly the same way. So for example you could say “YES” or whatever word you want, you can even make a noise, but whatever it is make sure it is said in a positive tone and also don’t forget to give him a treat afterwards.

Clicker training your dog is part of what is known as positive reinforcement training.

What this basically means is that when your dog behaves correctly he is rewarded, and when he behaves badly he is ignored.

Positive reinforcement training is the complete opposite of the old dog obedience training methods that were widely used in the past. It is where good behaviour is rewarded by a treat or with affection and bad behaviour is simply ignored. Ignoring the bad behaviour actually means not hitting or harming the dog in any way. Every dog’s natural instinct is to please their owner and when you hit a dog it actually interprets the bad energy coming from you as an acknowledgement of what he has done is ok.

I own and train border collies and have got a lot of satisfaction out of training my dogs and my aim is to set out and address your needs and help solve your problems that you may be having with your dog to enable you to have a fulfilled, loving and enjoyable relationship.

The first few days with your dog are very crucial. Although some dogs easily adjust to their new environment, there are many dogs that are rather slow in learning new things. According to many experts, one of the most challenging issues that you will face with your little rascal is dog potty training. Make not mistakes about it, dog potty training can be a bit tricky and things could really get very irritating especially when your little rascal starts messing around the house. In most cases, it will take some time and a lot of patience on your part before your little dog will finally learn where and how to potty.

Training Your Dog

Dog potty training doesn’t have to be very stressful for you and your pet. The best way to start things right is to ask the breeder what time the puppy usually eats and what time it usually need to potty. The amount of food and the regular eating time of your puppy can help you determine the time when your puppy has to go potty. Note that when conducting dog potty training, you will need to closely supervise your pet during the training period. You can only effectively supervise you puppy if you are able to correctly gauge when your pet needs to go potty.

During dog potty training, it is important for you to accompany your puppy outside when it is time for it to go potty. Note that puppies has the tendency to simply play in the yard instead of doing their thing so make sure that your puppy does what it is supposed to do. Furthermore, it is important that when you take your puppy outside to go potty, you take it to the same spot all the time. Puppies learn faster if the act is constant and is repeated often. Establish a pattern and do not deviate from it so that your puppy will not get disoriented.

Praising and giving treats to your puppy during dog potty training is important. If your puppy does something right, it is important to let the dog know that you are please with it. According to experts, if you consistently praise your dog for its good deeds during dog potty training, your dog will associate the good deed with praises and treats. Since dogs love being praised and given treats, it will be more inclined to perform something that will most likely generate praises and treats.

No matter how much we love our puppy, we wonder when it will ever be house broken. A new puppy has no idea about picking a place to “go.” Dogs really want to be house trained, because they want to have a clean living space. Here are three ways to use clicker training to make the house training process smoother and easier.

First, take your puppy to his potty place after eating and sleeping. After meals and upon awakening are the times that a puppy is most likely to need to go outside. Stay with your puppy and reward him when he goes where you want him to. If you’re using clicker training, click and reward his growing success.

If your puppy is not ready, give him more time. Always watch for signs — walking in circles, a certain kind of sniffing around — that it’s time. You’ll recognize the signs as you get to know your dog’s behavior. Always click when he does something you want him to repeat and reward him with your enthusiasm and a treat.

Second, set a place for the dog to go potty. If place is outside, you might want to designate a part of the yard specifically for your dog’s “business.” You’ll want to clean it frequently, because they don’t like to walk through their waste, but that will help you narrow the area you need to clean.

If the potty place is inside, find an easily cleaned space of floor and tape down an oven liner or a pet training pad. As the dog gets older and is more able to control his bladder and and bowel movements, you can move the potty place outside. You can stop clicking when your dog has mastered a behavior and go back to the training when it’s time for your dog to learn something new.

Finally, don’t punish the dog for getting it wrong. Just help them get it right. Formerly, common wisdom advised dog owners to house train their dogs by rubbing their noses in their own excrement. It is cruel and meaningless to punish him this way. By the time he is finished with his bowel movement, he has no clue why you’re doing this to him.

If you just help them get it right, they will succeed much sooner. Dogs like to get into a groove, and if you can get them to succeed — and reward their success — they’ll be more than happy to get it right in the future.

Clicker training give the dog specific feedback about what it’s doing right — and so it understands what you want from him.

Like wild wolves, dogs choose not to have their waste in their living spaces, so they are on your side in this. Your puppy wants you to be happy with him. With love, patience and clicker training, your dog will be a good companion at home and a good guest anywhere.

Barking is a normal activity for a dog, much like talking is for us and a little bit here and there is something we all learn to deal with. However a dog barking all day can be annoying even to the most patient dog lover.

Below we have listed a few simple ways to help stop excessive barking:

Exercise your dog daily if not more. Tired dogs will spend their time sleeping and resting rather than barking.

Buy your dog some good chew toys. Chewing is a great stress reliever and is an excellent way to occupy your dog’s time.

Try to hide any outdoor noises. This can be as simple as turning on the radio or TV for your dog, weather you are home or away.

Always acknowledge your dog’s barking. Often times your dog is simply trying to alert you to something, and if you acknowledge him, he should stop barking.

Teach your dog the “Quiet” command. If your dog continues barking after you acknowledge him, say “Quiet” sternly without yelling. If he stops barking, praise him.

Create a noise shaker. Put a few pennies in an empty soda can and tape it shut. If your dog does not respond to your quiet command, shake the can. Dogs do not like that sound and will often stop what they are doing when they hear it.

Give him a squirt. Give your dog a stern “Quiet,” and give him a quick squirt with a water bottle, or water gun. Remember to always aim for your dog’s body rather than his face.

Know when to switch strategies. If you do not see any improvement with a particular strategy, its time to switch, so give another one a try.

The treatment program must be based on the type of problem, your household, the immediacy of the situation, and the type and level of control that you require. A good behavioral history is important to determine cause, motivation and potential reinforcing stimuli for the barking behavior. Treatment plans need to consider the following:

1) Ensure that your dog is not being rewarded inadvertently. Some owners in an attempt to calm their dog down, will actually encourage the barking by giving attention, play, food or affection.

2) Sometimes the home environment can be modified so that the dog is kept away from the stimuli (sounds and sights) that cause barking. Exposure might be minimized by confining the dog to a crate, or room away from doors and windows, or covering windows so that the dog cannot look outside. Additionally, privacy fencing may be helpful for dogs outdoors. Dogs that bark when left alone outdoors, may have to be kept indoors except when the owner is available to supervise. Trigger sounds such as doorbells or telephones that might have become conditioned stimuli for barking should be altered to change their sound.

3) Until effective control and leadership is established, training programs are unlikely to be successful. Increasing interactive play periods and exercise, crate and confinement training, halter training.

4) Once you have sufficient control and the dog responds to obedience commands and handling, it should be possible to train your dog to cease barking on command. Training the dog to cease barking on command can be accomplished with food reward techniques, distraction techniques, or halter and leash training. Regardless of the technique, rewards should be given as soon as the barking stops, so that the dog learns that quiet behavior earns rewards. It is most important to associate SILENCE with the command used. Over time the behavior should be shaped so that the dog is required to stay quiet for progressively longer times, before a reward is given.

5) Once the owner has sufficient control with training and the quiet command, it may then be possible to begin a retraining program in the presence of the stimuli (people, other dogs) that lead to barking. Training with a head halter and leash often provides a tool for implementing the techniques safely and effectively especially indoors or when the owner is nearby. The stimulus should first be presented to the dog from a distance (e.g. children riding bicycles on the street while the dog stands on his porch), and the dog given a quiet or sit-stay command. Although the halter and leash is generally all that is required to control the dog and achieve the appropriate response, the dog could also be disrupted using a device such as an ultrasonic trainer or shake can. Training sessions are then repeated with progressively more intense stimuli. This type of training can be effective, but progress can be slow and time consuming.

6) Dogs that are barking for other reasons (fear, separation anxiety, or compulsive disorders) will require veterinary treatment for the underlying problem.
