Training a dog to walk properly on a leash?
Please tell me tricks to teach a dog quickly to walk properly on a leash. He is male, neutered, 9 months old. I found him abandoned and look a home for him, a lady is interested but she is not young and she needs him to be calm when she walks him. Any tips?
The lady is definitely the type that spoils a dog and lets it become dominant, so I need to train him before giving it away.
He is comfortable on a leash, but he is very active and wants to run around when we get out.

Try raising the collar up high on the neck, just behind the jaw. Make sure it is not loose enough to pull over the dog’s head, but not tight enough to cause harm.
By having the collar up high and behind the jaw, it will be on acute pressure points, preventing the dog from pulling. This is how show dogs are kept in line while being shown, and it also prevents the dog from sniffing unless you allow it to. This sounds harsh, but letting the dog sniff whenever he pleases can often lead to dominant behaviors. When he can sniff and mark whenever he wants, he is claiming territory from you and other dogs, leading him to pull on the lead and go where he pleases.
Try working with the woman who wants to adopt him and show her techniques for keeping him well-behaved on a walk.
um first don’t use a choker chain i think u should buy a harness bc its warped on ur dogs back so u have more control of ur dog oh and if ur dog going to grow big u should buy a leash that has kind of a stick attached to it so u can grab the stick and it will b easier to pull ur dog if it goes out of control
First thing, you need to get him comfortable with wearing a collar. Do this by putting a collar on him for a few minutes at a time, gradually increasing the amount of time he is wearing it until he doesn’t seem to notice it anymore.
After he has gotten used to the collar, it’s time to start leash training. It is best to use a lightweight leash that he won’t mind having trail behind him. Attach the leash to his collar while he’s doing his normal routine around the house. He will probably try to bite and play with it at first. As with the collar, gradually increase the amount of time his leash is attached until he seems comfortable with it. Then, you can start following him while holding the leash, being sure not to pull. This will get him used to someone walking with him.
Once you’re comfortable with walking him in the house, it’s time to move outside. There are a lot more distractions outside, and he will probably try to pull. When he does this, don’t jerk the leash, just stay planted where you are and wait for him to come back to you. After a while, he will learn that you’re not going to play that game and will not pull anymore. Good luck!
