Your dog might be hyperactive, shy or even a bit rebellious. Whatever his personality, your furry friend needs positive dog training to be the best dog he can be. A training routine will establish your roles and make him more likely to obey essential commands. These small steps can help carve the path to a happier, more well-behaved dog in little time.

Throughout your dog’s training program, continue to play with them as much as possible. Interacting through games and activities is one way to bond with your pet and relieve stress. Dogs respond much better to people they trust, so go out and throw a ball, play tug of war or just rub their belly.

Is your dog eating a nutritionally-sound diet? Like children, dogs can become hyperactive, inattentive and even a little bit bratty when their diet isn’t up to par. Consider changing your dog’s diet to something more species-appropriate, and he’ll have long-lasting, consistent energy all day. Check with your vet about any specific nutritional needs he might need attending to!

To teach your dog to sit, gently push down on his behind as you give the verbal command “Sit!” and make a hand gesture with your palm facing down. Each time your dog sits successfully, even if you have to help him out, give him a treat and praise him. It is important that your dog know how to sit so that you can build on this command and eventually teach him to “Stay!”

Food and treats can be your ally in training your dog to seek out his crate. Allow your dog to find strategically placed bits of food and a few treats every once in a while when he returns to his crate. He will make it a habit of checking the crate out more regularly just in case something else has miraculously appeared there.

When training a new puppy to come, a long rope is a great aid. Call the puppy while gently pulling it toward you and praising it for coming. When it reaches you, praise it even more and offer a favorite treat. Soon the puppy will associate its name and coming to you with praise and treats, then you won’t need the rope anymore.

If your dog suffers from separation anxiety every time you leave, try getting an additional dog. Sometimes, having someone else to play with while you are away, is all that is needed to keep your furry friend happy until you return.

When house training your new puppy you need to follow a strict schedule. Get your puppy outside to eliminate first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and every couple of hours in between. This will help him to learn that elimination happens outside. It also prevents pee scents (which are attractive to your dog) from being in the house to begin with.

Now that you have found some useful positive dog training tips, it is time to put them into action. Before starting any training, make sure that your dog does not have any health issues that can make training harder. Read up on the specific breed of dog that you have and have fun with him.
