What commands and tricks does your dog know?
The commands Cocoa knows are sit and come. The tricks she knows are shake and catch. Abby commands are sit, come, and I just introduced her to down today. We are also working on her fetch trick.
Would you agree that there is no better feeling then when you are training your dog and they suddenly give you that,”I got it!” look? Which commands or tricks do you find the most handy? Which do you find the most fun?

My puppy knows “c’mere!”, but she’ll only come when you sink down low to the ground. We’re also working on “let go”.
My dog knows how to come here…..and to sit only if i have a treat lol
My dogs knows sit, down, stand, roll over, beg, high five in beg position, give both paws (on different comands (1 for each leg)), an high five with both paws (on different commands), spin, touch a target and weave through my legs, play dead and catch. Oh and fetch and leave.
my dog knows play dead its so funny to watch and when you say squrril he goes running to the tree and start jump it so funny he also knows beg, jump, sit, shake, drop, fetch, come, and some other tricks
My dogs know minimal tricks/commands, but they get the job done:)
Holly–sit, come, and her trick is “shake”.
Lexy–sit, come, down, her favorite trick is “catch”.
Sam–sit, come, down, roll over, as a trick we are working on “play dead”.
I have a year old Jack Russell/Fox Terrier named Max, he knows:
Sit
Paw
High Five
Down
Spin
Speak
Roll over
Jump Up (he will jump up to my stomach and I’ll catch him)
Drop it
Smile
Bring it here
We are currently working on “sneeze”… my old shepherd mix could it, so i’m trying to teach him :]
Sit, laydown and wanna treat?
My puppy knows: sit, stay, come. he also knows “let’s go inside.” “let’s play on the trampoline”, do you wanna eat?, do you wanna go outside, and “Chickens!” (at which he runs outside and barks at my chickens or any other bird, cause he thinks they’re all chickens.
It’s really fun to teach dogs to shake hands. It is fun to teach dogs tricks in general, though! I like “let’s go inside”. That’s pretty handy. “let’s play on the trampoline” is the most fun because Judgie (my puppy) runs to the trampoline and stands on his hind legs, waiting for me to pick him up and throw him on.
Tricks he knows? That’d be:
1) that he’s big enough to kick mommy off the sofa if he decides.
2) that he can just sit his butt down in front of the stupid vacuum no matter where it goes and eventually mommy will get fed up and just shut the dang thing.
Okay, no .. really….. he knows come, sit, stay, heel, gimme five, down, it’s time to dance (lol for real.. I tell him dance and he’s up with his paws around my waist and we dance!), car (he runs right to the car and sits down til we open the door to let him in) and he is FINALLY getting drop it, though, he’s still stubborn about that one. Oh, and he also knows the difference between his toys…. bring the football, bring the tire, and he’ll get the right one.
Sit, down, paw, other paw, touch (dog touches nose to my hand), up, stand (they freeze), stay (from sit, down, and stand), come, speak, leave it, smile, and hug.
my dog knows sit, stay, release, wait, heel,go to bed, fetch, attack, holding somone in a attack position, backflips, handshakes, but i had my dog trained for 5 1/2 years to get it like that
my dog will
sit
come
lay
roll over
fetch
smile
most fun i think when we roll over toether.because she gives me kisses all the time.and she knows shes getting a treat after.
My dog Jack knows sit, and thats it. No come or lay down. Tricks he knows are leave-it, he’ll leave the biscuit till I tell him to, he knows paw, which hand is it in; he’ll choose the right hand that the treat is in, he knows find it; I’ll hide a treat and he’ll find and he knows “beg” you could say though I call it “levade”. Though I could say those to him, he knows the hand signals for them which are much more effective for me than just my words.
My dog knows basic obedience commands:
- sit
- down
- stay
- come
- heel
and agility equipment commands
- jump (bar jump)
- over (plank jump)
- tire (tire jump)
- weave (poles)
- climb (a-frame)
- walk (dog walk)
- zoom (tunnel/chute)
- table (pause box)
She needs to learn the teeter-totter still.
For tricks she knows
- shake
- roll over
- bounce (jump in the air)
- crawl
We’re working on beg next.
Other miscellaneous commands:
- leave it
- take it
- off (get off of furniture)
- let’s go (walking on leash, but not heeling)
- drop (drop whatever is in her mouth)
- fetch
- get toy (go find a toy and bring it to me)
- kisses (lick)
.
My dog knows the basics, sit stay down heel he also knows ‘by heel’ and ‘around’ to get back into heel postion, and to stand for exams. We taught him how to leave a room (like the kitchen) he knows the difference between the commands front and back door.
Tricks, he can shake left or right paw and give you paw you request, both paws. He can spin in a circle and dance (spinning on hind legs lol) he knows how to speak, how to back up, how to crawl and roll over. He is just learned to touch a target, including the cats.
Most handy for me, would have to be down stays and to leave a room. Down stays have saved him from running into the street!
our dogs know, sit, come, stay, drop it, leave it, naptime, bedtime, off, spit it out, time for hugs, high five, shake( of course when i say that, they shake their whole body then look at me like i’m the crazy one), at treat time i let our male pit chose the treat, so he put’s his paw on either a scooby snack or a twizzler( that’s how they were trained). and yes, they can shake hands.
My greyhound know bed and want a treat, my Black Lab fetches but runs the other way with is, wanna eat, tail goes into such a spin I consider it a trick, and they all know come here and let me give you a kiss.
Akira knows:
Sit- A snap of the fingers with my had at my chest and the word “sit”, But we are working on her responding to just the snapping as well, and the motion of my hand moving from my side to my chest.
Down- A Snap and pointing to the ground paired with the word “down”. Also working on the non verbal command and movement for that as well. We have another “down” command for when we are sitting and talking to someone. All I have to reach down in front of her and touch the ground and she knows to lay down and be quiet.
Drop- We are working on it. She gets it about 50% of the time.
Be Quiet- This is my favorite, and she learned it as a fluke, she is a naturally quiet dog, but if she gets rowdy all we have to do is say her name and follow with a short, sharp, “Stssssss” Sound and she will be quiet
Her recall to return to us is till rocky, but she has hound in her and is only 4 months old so we still have a lot of work to do so we aren’t worrying about it yet, for now we keep her leashed for the most part.
Hope this helps!
He knows….sit, gimme your paw, high-5, lay down, come, no, get down, go get it, bring it here, stop that, heel, wait, but the best one of all is “get your tail”. He loves that one. He loves training, and for a pup that’s almost 4 months old, he’s doing very well. He’s a little smartie, but I have also worked with him for hours. I usually tire out of the training before he does. He loves to learn.
I can remote sit any one of my dogs as much as a quarter mile away from me, and then send it to any point of the compass. It is called “virtual casting”.
And I can do it without saying a single word. All done with a whistle and arm signals.
My dog knows sit, down, sit stay, down stay, outside, inside, drop it, leave it, wait, shake, high 5, high 10, and prey. This is only at home!
my harley knows sit, stay, come, no, he knows lay
he can give u 5. hold out your right hand to him ( he sitting right in front of u) and will smack his paw to your hand, tell him the other one and he’ll do the same. tell him to speak and he speaks, jump like a kangroo and he jumps like a kangroo, ask he if wants to go for a ride and he’ll bark, tell him lets go to bed and he walks to the bedroom and lays on his bed and goes to sleep.
Hi, my 14 m/o knows:
Sit
Lay
Heel
Come
Stay
Get down
Get the ball
Kiss me
Paw….other paw
High five
Go home
Get leash
The most useful is ‘come’. First time I let him loose in a field and he came back on my first ‘come’ my heart filled with pride and joy.
The most fun to watch is when we come back from a walk and I give him my end of the leash and tell him ‘gohome’ …sometimes he gets all tangled into it but he doesn’t give up, he takes it all the way to the front door.
what a lovely question!!
my dogs know
*trust (wait)
*paid for (ok its yours)
*stop (they can be the other side of the field and it still works)
*empty (the washing machine)
*fill (the washing machine)
*collect (if i point to an item on the floor/table ect)
*down
*kiss
*paw
*other paw
*do dead
*smile
*speak
*roll over
*fetch
*hold it (leash)
*on (meaning sit still while i put your collar and lead on)
*play (jump up)
*tell me (they sit and rest both paws on my knee)
*dance (weave in between my legs)
*wave
*peek (down position both paws over eyes)
*leave
*careful (around young children and small animals)
*easy (quiet)
i am currently trying to train ‘bowl’ so they will bring their bowls to me at feed time
most of it is just for something to teach them but they are really clever so they relish it!
i tend to have the most fun with the least useful ones like dance wave and peek but the most useful ones are stop and trust.
“Basic training”. Sit, stay, etc.
Tricks: Shake, rollover, high 5, turn around (in circles and figure 8′s), wave, and a few others.
The most useful and my absolute favorite. “Get it”. She’ll clean my house if I point to each item and say “get it”, she picks it up and hands it to me.
my lil beagles (i have two boiz) know: sit, down, shake, stay, touch ( thay come and touch my hand) come, off you go, bow, wave, and thay are working on fetch, and stand !!!!
