Why has my dog forgotten his potty training skills?
I have a 5 month Chihuahua. He uses the bathroom outside and I have pads inside the house in case of an emergency. He was doing great and only using those methods to go to the bathroom. Now he will just be walking down the hallway and squat in front of me! I don’t know what to do. It has been a little frustrating. Any tips or thoughts are welcome.

cause chihuahas piss everywhere. i have one. no matter what you do they will always piss and $hit everywhere
sometimes they do relaspe and u have to do the potty trianing all over again until it clicks in that he is to go outside. train him again like he is just learning and continue for a few days and hopefully he will remember to go to the door when he needs out.scold him when he messes inside and put him right out and when he goes outside praise him and give him a treat. if he is peeing a lot he might have a little infection so if it keeps up have him checked out. good luck
My first thought is that perhaps your little dog has developed a urinary tract infection… this is pretty common behavior for a dog with a UTI. I would have him tested for this by your veterinarian. If this is a medical issue, he needs to be treated with medication for it… training won’t help.
Sometimes when puppies get pretty good at their housetraining skills, people kind of relax their supervision and puppies backslide. If this is the case, go back to what you did when he was a baby… take him out on a schedule, supervise all the time, take him out after he eats or drinks, take him out if he is sniffing inside or circling or going toward a place he has had an accident before, take him out if looks at or goes toward the door, etc. … he will remember quickly what he is supposed to do.
Do NOT make a huge deal out of the accidents! If you do, your pup may become afraid to eliminate in front of you… this makes taking him outside to eliminate an issue because he will want to wait until you are not looking.
Perhaps because he is a bit thick.

Give him the benefit of your boot toe in the appropriate area. He will soon remember.
If he was doing great before then something’s gone wrong. Maybe he got bored or something. Solution to this is to start training him again. Try this one out, http://dogtime.com/training-by-personality.html.
Carly is a chi puppy and 5 months also. She was doing the same thing and I purchased poochie bells to potty train her and it worked!
I can sympathize with you. I have six dogs, so you can imagine the chaos I had. I found the following to helpful:

Good luck and hang in there. They bring joy to any household.
